CREATE Ambassadors Youth Teams

CREATE Resilience in your Local Community

Want to learn valuable professional skills and participate in unique opportunities to learn and create meaningful experiences in your community? Come be a part of our CREATE Ambassador Youth Teams!

Nurture Nature Center has received a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Environmental Literacy Grant program to design a project to build knowledge of environmental issues, and resiliency to natural hazards, among youth and residents in the Lehigh Valley. The four-year project, called CREATE Resilience: Community Resilience through Education, Art, Technology and Engagement, will provide dynamic education and dialogue opportunities in the municipalities throughout the Easton, Bangor and Wilson Area School Districts, engaging residents, community leaders and students in learning together about the science of hazards, and strategies for resilience.

Nurture Nature Center is looking for 4 high school students from each of the communities in the Easton, Bangor and Wilson Area School Districts to help design and participate in community and educational events from November 2019 to September 2020.

Students will learn about natural hazards, mitigation strategies and resiliency concepts, and engage with local residents, decision-makers, regional hazard experts and national climate and weather professionals.

Students will receive a $2,000 stipend for completing this internship experience.  Students must complete an application to be considered for the position. Qualified students will demonstrate an interest in community issues and a desire to learn about environmental issues and hazards in our communities. There will be opportunities for students to present to the public and to showcase leadership in designing community activities.

Deadline for application:  October 4th, 2019.

Announcements of selected candidates:  around October 18th, 2019

Kick-off meeting for CREATE Youth Ambassadors:  October 29th, 4:30 p.m at Nurture Nature Center.  (Mark your calendars now!)
