Artwork for Observation and Discussion

Looking for art images to use within your lesson can be fun and informative but sometimes a time-consuming process. It is important to give careful consideration to your choice of images so that the students have an approachable, narrative image that has just enough complexity to keep the conversation going, yet not so much that they will be overwhelmed.

While we encourage you to seek out and use artwork that are in the public domain or are open access freely in your classroom, for the purposes of developing lessons for this grant project, we must make our best attempt to document that the images are in the public domain or are open access. Public domain means it is no longer protected under copyright and open access means that the image is still copyrighted but that the artist or institution has given permission for its use. Additionally, for work that is copyrighted, you can try to reach out to the artist/creator to get permission to use the work.

To help you, we have created a slide deck of images on key topics that you can feel free to use within your lessons. We will continue to add to this deck as the project progresses.
