Easton is Creating a Climate Action Plan!

Nurture Nature Center is excited to announce that we are helping the City of Easton create a Climate Action Plan (CAP) as part of the PA Department of Environmental Protection Local Climate Action Program. The City is part of the Global Covenant of Mayors, a group of over 10,000 cities around the world that have joined forces to address climate change. You can learn more about the planning process and importance of creating a CAP here: https://nurturenaturecenter.org/the-city-of-eastons-climate-action-plan/.

In Fall 2020 NNC worked with the City and a student from Muhlenberg College to create an updated greenhouse gas inventory for the city as a baseline. Throughout the spring, NNC, the City of Easton, and Easton’s Environmental Advisory Council will be gathering input from public stakeholders and drafting a plan based on Easton residents’ priorities.

In addition to setting goals and objectives to reduce emissions contributing to climate change, the plan will lay out strategies that can improve air quality in the Lehigh Valley, make Easton residents’ homes more comfortable in both winter and summer, ensure future development reflects residents’ vision for their city, create new economic opportunities, enhance natural spaces where people can go to relieve stress and have fun, and more. This plan will belong to and affect all of us – so make your voice heard and let us know what is important to include to make Easton more sustainable!
