Illustrated Community Maps

One highlight of Nurture Nature Center’s CREATE Resilience Hub Project, a collaboration with seven local municipalities, was the creation of artists’ illustrated maps.  Six local artists were commissioned to follow the project, attend meetings, interview municipal representatives, and work with NNC staff to understand key themes and develop content. The resulting illustrated maps are unique to each community. They provide an approachable and easy to understand map that highlights the strengths and key efforts made by each community in working to improve their response to natural hazards. The original artwork was framed and gifted to each participating community to hang prominently in their municipal building as a source of community pride and to keep resilience planning top-of-mind. Copies of each artwork were added to an interactive exhibit at the center that allows visitors to learn more about what resiliency looks like in their own community.

Municipalities partnering in the project are listed below, along with the artists commissioned for each community.

Borough of Bath/East Allen Township — Tom Maxfield
Borough of Portland — Pamela Danko-Stout
Bushkill Township — Anna Kodama
Hanover Township (Northampton Co.) — Patricia Delluva
Palmer Township — Linda Ganus Albulescu
Upper Nazareth Township — James A. DePietro

Nurture Nature Center would like to thank the above artists who worked through a complicated process, sharing their talents to create works that embody the spirit of a resilient community.
