Artist Lauren Rosenthal invites us to reconnect with the river and to contemplate our relationship with it. Her meticulously crafted paper map, “Delaware River Anatomy” is purposely void of boundaries, names and man-made structures. In doing so, she challenges the viewer to re-orient themselves in a familiar landscape of hills, plains and valleys.

This very sensual and intricate interpretation of the landscape reminds us that the river is part of a larger watershed — a living, breathing, natural system that functions as an interconnected whole. It gives “priority to rivers, not as resources to be exploited, but as an integral part of a social/biological system..,” explains Rosenthal.
